We all think we’ve worked life out — until it takes a turn. A detour. And with every detour comes a story. Sometimes it’s yours. Sometimes it’s your parents’, your grandparents’ — even a friend’s. Stories of love. Of loss. Of resilience. Some are quiet. Some are unforgettable. And some… we don’t realize it mattered until much later. That’s life.
So why did I start with children’s books? Can Detour be more than bedtime stories? Absolutely. Our mission is to collect the world’s voices and rekindle the memories that shape our lives.
For many of us, our first stories began at bedtime — that’s where the journey starts, before the detours are taken — told in the voices we loved most. Yet we rarely appreciate a loved one’s voice until it’s gone. I know this because I lost my mother — and I don’t have a single recording of her voice.
We remember their laughter, the way they told stories, the comfort in their words — but when they’re gone, their voice fades into memory. What if you could hear them again?
Detour uses advanced voice technology to bring back the voices that shaped you, letting you relive cherished moments — like hearing your mother’s voice again, reading your favorite bedtime book, letter or recipe.

How does the beta program work?As a beta tester, you’ll get early access to Detour and experience the joy of hearing a loved one’s voice read a bedtime story. We’ll ask for your feedback to refine the platform before our official launch.

How long does the beta program last?The beta program will run for 3 months, giving you plenty of time to explore Detour, hear your loved one’s voice, and share your feedback. We’ll keep you updated on milestones and next steps as we prepare for our official launch.

Is Detour free?Yes, the beta program is completely free! We’re inviting 30-40 mothers to test Detour and share their insights. After beta, we’ll introduce various plans, but early testers will receive exclusive perks for helping us shape our platform.

Can I change or update the voice later?For the beta program, we ask you to upload one voice recording—30-60 seconds of a loved one’s voice. The more high-quality audio you provide, the more natural and accurate the cloned voice will sound. During beta, we focus on perfecting that one voice, but stay tuned—future updates may allow changes after launch.

What books are available?We offer a curated selection of beloved children's books featuring timeless classics to modern favorites recommended by Time Magazine. You’ll find familiar stories like Goodnight Moon, Paddington Bear, and others—each chosen to spark nostalgia and create special moments for you and your loved ones.

Can I request a book that’s not listed?Yes! If your favorite childhood book isn’t in our library, you can suggest it through our platform. You can view our full catalogue before the beta launch to check availability. If it’s not there, we’ll need to source the book and add it to the library, which may take a few days before you can access it.

How often will the book catalogue update?We’re starting with Time Magazine’s best 100 children’s books, offering timeless classics and modern favorites for the beta. We’ll update the catalogue as mothers request new books, adding them based on your feedback.

How long does it take to recreate a voice?Uploading a recording takes just a few minutes, and our technology processes it within a short time. Once the voice is ready, you can start listening to bedtime stories right away.

Is my loved one’s voice recording safe?Absolutely! Your loved one’s voice and data are yours alone. Detour will never sell, share, or misuse your recordings—ever. We use secure encryption to protect them, and they’re used only for your personal storytelling experience.

What happens to my recording if I leave the beta program?Your recording stays secure with you. If you choose to leave the beta, we’ll delete your loved one’s voice recording from our system upon your request—ensuring your privacy.

Can someone else access my loved one’s cloned voice?Absolutely Not! Your loved one’s cloned voice is private and accessible only to you. We use strict security measures to prevent unauthorized access, keeping it exclusive for your personal use.

How accurate is the voice recreation?Our advanced voice-cloning technology creates a natural, lifelike version of your loved one’s voice. While no AI is perfect, we capture your loved one's tone, warmth, and emotion, making the storytelling feel as authentic as possible.

Can Detour recreate any voice with just one recording?Yes, but quality matters! With a clear 30-60 second recording, our technology can recreate most voices naturally however, if the recording sample is unclear, we may ask for another.

What if the cloned voice doesn’t sound right?If the cloned voice isn’t quite right, we’ll work with you during beta to refine it—your feedback is key and it's why we have decided to run the beta program. We may request another recording or adjust our AI.

Welcome to Detour! We're thrilled you're joining our private beta. Before you use our service, please read these Terms of Service ("Terms"). By accessing or using Detour, you agree to these Terms.
1. Beta Nature of the Service
Detour is currently in a private beta phase. This means the platform is still being developed, and features may change, break, or be removed at any time. We appreciate your feedback and patience as we improve.
2. User Content & Recordings
You may upload voice recordings to use Detour’s features. You retain full ownership of your recordings and the voice data you provide. By uploading content, you grant Detour a limited, non-exclusive license to use, process, and clone that voice solely to deliver our storytelling services to you.
3. Consent for Voice Usage
By uploading a recording, you confirm you have permission to use that voice (whether your own or someone else's) and have the legal right to share it with Detour. Do not upload voices without consent.
4. Use of the Service
You agree not to use Detour for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes. Detour may suspend or remove access at its discretion if these Terms are violated.
5. Data Privacy
We do not sell your data, ever. Your voice files and content remain private and are only used to power the Detour experience. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
6. Feedback Welcome
During the beta, we welcome any feedback, suggestions, or bugs you encounter. By submitting feedback, you allow us to use it to improve Detour without obligation or compensation.
7. No Guarantee of Availability
Because this is a beta, we do not guarantee uptime or uninterrupted access. Features may be unavailable without notice, and Detour may shut down temporarily or permanently at any time.
